About the MIA
The Music Industries Association is a UK trade association, the only one servicing and representing the interests of all UK businesses selling musical instruments and associated products. Manufacturers, importers, publishers, retailers and supporting businesses (i.e. music media) all come within our scope. Together we undertake activities to stimulate our market and make the industry’s views and needs known and appreciated in Whitehall, Westminster and Brussels. All activities are focussed towards our mission:
"CREATING AND ENCOURAGING MUSIC MAKING"
The MIA is recognised by the UK Government as being the "lead body" for our industry. This means we are consulted by the Department of Trade and Industry before legislation, which might impact on the businesses of our members, is enacted. MIA represents its members’ views to government as being "The Voice" of our sector and influences the business climate in which we all work.
The MIA also runs the industry charity, Music for All, which helps people of all ages and backgrounds to be able to start playing an instrument. School-age children are a particular focus. It especially helps those who are not fortunate enough to be able to access musical instruments and the lessons with which to learn.
